Internet usage on the road

This past summer we went on an extended road trip and had things set up before and when we stayed with a family member we could use their protected internet to check accounts etc.

Any campgrounds we stayed at all had public access internet but I didn't want to be doing personal banking on it.

I will not use public WiFi for any important secure activity. We do, however, use Verizon cellular service on occasion. While I'm sure it can be done, i've never heard of anyone hacking a cellular connection ( other than the government ) so we are not too concerned about using it.

While traveling or long term stays in the RV we primarily use iPads for most internet work, but we do have a laptop which I can use through my iPad's Verizon hotspot.
