Interstate 40 overnite stops

Traveling from Nashville to California via I-40 with a 24 foot TT, and looking for nice overnight stops in eastern OK, mid NM, and Flagstaff area AZ. Looking for any suggestions or favorite stops from other travelers. Thank you.

Homilovi State Prk in AZ east of Winslow is nice enough but only has dump station, there is a commercial park in Winslow that was the same price and full hookup last I checked.

Free dry camping at the city park at the lake at Winslow GPS N34° 58.209' W110° 38.620' and you can "take it easy standing on the corner looking for a girl in a red ford truck". Also flying J truck stop at Winslow.
  • Dry overnight Camping.

West of OK City at MM 101 GPS N35° 31.192' W98° 21.036' is a large parking lot at the casino as well as a truck stop to fuel up.

West of Flagstaff @ MM 191 At the entrance to the Naval Observatory

Check out Campendium and Free Camping Lots of free camping around I40
  • There is a nice campground next door to Camping World in Albuquerque on the I-40 frontage road.
  • I like Dancing Eagle Casino/RV park at exit 108 between Albuquerque and Grants NM. for an overnight stop and or tour of Sky City (Acoma Pueblo). There is a supermarket with a great deli (IMO) and the RV park link was $10 w/full hookup, plus the casino, travel center, etc.

Santa Rosa, Tucumcarri, Grants, Gallup, and casinos all along the way in NM.

Homilovi State Prk in AZ east of Winslow is nice enough but only has dump station, there is a commercial park in Winslow that was the same price and full hookup last I checked.
  • When we came back from Arizona a couple years ago, we stopped at Santa Rosa Campground in New Mexico and Park Ridge Campground in Van Buren in western Arkansas. Both were easy on and off
  • We did most of that trip in May of this year.
There is a COE CG in Ozark AR right on a river. Western AR, abou 475 miles from Nashville. Be aware of trains at odd hours. It was either 10 or 11 dollars with the geezer pass.
The next night was Amarillo for Palo Duro Canyon and the Big Texan Steak House.
On to Albuquerque, Winslow, and Lake Havasu before looping back to I10 and home. I wish we had stayed longer in Albuquerque and adjusted Lake Havasu to make up for the change. May is no time for western AZ.
One other thing. Be on the west side of any city if you plan on leaving early in the AM on the way west. Reverse on the way home. We got jammed up big time staying on the east side of Nashville the first night.
  • Lots of campgrounds on I-40, but many of them close for the winter (October?)

Get a Good Sam campground Directory.Camping World, about 10 bucks. They list every cg and rate them. The rating, thru my experience is OK but some are questionable.

Quite a few KOAs...you a member? They have their own Directory
