Inyo National Forest

Tuttle Creek BLM campground in Lone Pine has been open for a week or two. We just got back yesterday. It was 75% full, about 80+ sites. Normally this time of year, maybe 20 sites are in use. It's definitely different this year. People itching to get out.

Saw a lot of RVs heading north Sunday morning, as we headed south back home from Lone Pine. I was wondering where they were going with most of Mono County shutdown.

LWiddis, I'm a HS teacher in California, there is no way we are starting school early. If anything it might be later than normal, but this is all speculation as I have not been told anything from my district. Strange times for sure!!!!

Yes, there is a lot of boondocking in that area. Unfortunately, it is kind of warm -- around 7000 feet. Many of the campgrounds in that general area are at about 9000 feet, a lot cooler.

On the other hand, beggars can't be choosers -- at this point, I would settle for almost anything! ;)

Can always find some space along Owens River Road, profdant...I hope!

Lwiddis, thanks for posting this. And yes, there are thousands of us in SoCal, just itching to hit the road. What a mess it is going to be!

Sgeorge, could be but if California schools open early, that will eliminate those families.

If they don't start getting them open very soon, the mad dash from Socal will be insane when they do open. I am afraid that the rush will make it very hard to find sites. We typically don't use the reservation campsites, we like the more rural uncrowded places.
