Is it worth visiting Marfa TX

We are also considering stopping in Marfa, TX. In your opinion, is it worth a stop?
  • We also spent the night a couple of times at the Marfa Lights viewing area. It was great fun and yes we saw the lights. Different strokes, you know. Good luck.

    dreamer.
  • We spend the night there. We take our chairs and put them out on the platform and watch the lights with our binoculars. It's fun to listen to what others think, dream a bit about sci fi and hope there is something to it all. We enjoy it.
  • We spend the night every time we cross Texas just like rv2go. Sometimes we see the lights, sometimes we don't but mostly it's a convenient spot to sleep.

I'm sure there's folks that like spending time in Marfa but unless you're trying to fill up several days in the area there's better ways to spend your time - Fort Davis, McDonald Observatory, Big Bend Nat'l Park. For campgrounds - Big Bend Nat'l Park, Fort Davis, Balmorhea. With more info about your travel route and how much time you want to spend we can do better.
    Agree.
  • I spend the night at the Marfa Lights viewing center ever time I cross Texas. I have seen the "Lights" ever nite that I have been there. Not only the entertainment, but a nice place to spend the night. I park facing west and can see a lot out the windshield.

IMO, It's a phenomenon that can't be explained and you should stop.

  • There is a rest area where the lights appear. We stayed there one night staring out the window until midnight. Didn't see a thing. I have been there, done that and will not be going back. Would I recommend it, no.
