Jekyll Island booked, any nice campgrounds south near rte 10

Usually we stay at Jekyll as our half way point to Florida but its booked, any nice places a little further south, closer to central Fl.? We would stay at Skidaway but its a longer drive time to our destination (Fort Desoto).

We tend to like state parks with hiking and bike trails.

Full hookups not needed, just 110v & water.

Any thoughts on Crooked River State Park? That sort of looks like it would do.

Thanks.

  • Coastal GA RV Resort, Blythe Island Regional Park & Campground and Jekyll Island Campground are all at the same exit of I-95 - exit 29. Coastal GA RV Resort is the closet to I-95, just about 2 miles from the exit. Blythe Island is about 5.5 miles from the exit while Jekyll's campground is a good bit further from I-95.

If you like State Parks, then you will like Blythe Island Regional Park & Campground. In my opinion it is a much nicer campground than Jekyll Island's campground, but of course you don't have the rest of the island to enjoy like you would on Jekyll.

Blythe Island Regional Park is on GA 303 in Brunswick, while Coastal CA RV Resort is off of Southport Parkway off of US 17. Both are nice campgrounds.

  • There is Coastal Ga rv park...saw it on rvparkreviews, it's west of Jeckyll on I think 405 don't know anything other than this except it is not south of where you want to be.

  • I haven't stayed at Crooked River SP but plan on it. CampSitePhotos.com has pictures of all the sites. If yoo plan on staying longer than overnight, check out Cumberland Island.
  • We usually stay at Blythe Island Regional Park which is near the Jekyll Island exit on I-95.There are trails for walking. http://www.glynncounty.org/index.aspx?NID=176
  • Have you looked at Blythe island campground. We have also stayed at coastal GA in Brunswick. Right at exit 29 off the I95.

  • We've stayed at Crooked River a number of times and have enjoyed the park. No-see-ums can be a problem but we've never had them bother us that much. If you are looking for an overnight spot, then they shouldn't be a problem. The town of St. Marys is very pretty and has a couple good restaurants right on the river. We stop there whenever we are in the area now that we can't get into Ft Clinch. Reservations are difficult to obtain at Ft. Clinch.

    Good luck.
  • We have stayed at Crooked River a couple of times. One time was great and the other time we got ran out by what we believe were the no-see-ums. However if you are just staying overnight, you probably would be just fine. This cold weather we are having may have driven them away.
