I think I understand the OP's question. I would like to go down to Key West next year but the RV park prices are leaving me gasping for air. Over all on the trip I think it will all average out, that is what I keep telling my husband. We might take my great nephew camping next year, I will keep Fort Wilderness in mind.
I think you hit the nail on the head.
If you want to go to the Keys. You pay the rate for the Keys, comparing it to anywhere else is a moot point because there is only one place like the keys. Similar or close enough really does not exist!
Yes there are beaches that I consider close enough. Why drive 10 hours to Myrtle when REhobeth is 2 hours away.
Or why drive to the Smoky Mountains when the Shenandoah Valley is much closer. I understand close enough is OK lots of times.
But there is only one Fort,One Key one Yellowstone.
Now the Fort is also that special place. No other CG in the world has access to the Disney transportation system. You can park your RV and move about all over Disney property without ever driving. I can entertain myself for days without entering any of the parks just by using disney transportation.
My DW can fly in and land at the airport and Disney will shuttle her to the CG for free. No other CG I know will do that!
.
But for all the Disney Magic I must pay, However what you get in return is not your typical camping experience. It is a camping experience like no other. Either you drink the Disney Kool Aid or you drink tap water...LOL
In the end if the destination is truly unique. There will be no comparable competition. The rate will be unique as well
