Kartchner Cavern Tours

We took them both the same day - can't say one is better than the other. They only allow flash photography certain times of year if that makes a difference to you. I'd do both.

Kartchner cavern tour is totally worth it. Very interesting. As best I remember we took one tour and went through the throne room and big room in one tour. They have very strict rules and enforce them. As you enter you are sprayed with a fine mist and warned that to touch anything other than the path you are standing on is not allowed. Also we were told no flash photos. Either offense would result in being taken off the tour and escorted out. Sure enough a 12 year old girl snapped a picture. She and mother were out immediately, some kind of incident report was written and they were taken back to the visitor center. There are reasons for the rules and that is just part of the whole interesting story about the cave

You might want to check and see if the trams are running again after the crash a few days ago.

Karchner Caverns Accident

We gave the tours and our recommendation is the Rotunda/Throne Room tour if you're only doing one. (The other is the Big Room) It's a beautiful cavern and is still growing so you'll hear lots of dripping. :)

The campground is very nice, also and is in a pretty setting. There are also some hiking trails.

Please don't let the tram accident change your mind. As far as I know this has not happened at any other time in the park's history.

Most stunning thing about the caverns to me, was the two guys who crawled into an unknown hole in the ground and crawled all that way when they discovered the caverns!! Who does that!!

We stopped here for the tours but since they don't allow you to take pictures, we moved on. Was a waste of camping fees. They do have nice showers.

Thank you all for your replies. I feel sorry for the people hurt in the tram accident, I hope they recover quickly. Thanks 2gypsies, we will take your advice and do the Rotunda/Throne Room tour. We will also be spending the night at the campground.

They don't allow you to take pictures???? You should see all of mine.
You can take a lot of excellent pictures without flash, though it would have helped some places.

+1 on the Rotunda/Throne Room. Has more variety IMHO.

The rules may have changed since your last visit. You can't even take in your cell phone for a picture. Here's the current rules which I've found they strictly enforce now:
