Kelley's Island

All-

Have any of you camped at Kelley's Island State Park? How expensive is it to get your RV to the island on the ferry? Our TT is 32' long. Thanks!

I know they don't list over 26 feet but I've seen tractor trailers on the ferry. I've never camped there but have walked the campground and it is on our bucket list. Make sure you check out the glacial grooves adjacent to the campground, quite impressive.
Here is the ferries phone number and rates. You have to call for over 26' trailers.

    419-798-9763

    ROUND TRIP RATES:
    Under 10 feet $35.00
    11 - 14 feet $40.00
    15 - 18 feet $48.00
    19 - 22 feet $65.00
    23 - 26 feet $75.00
  • Back in 2010 we were going to take our 39 foot fifth wheel to Put-N-Bay and seems like the round trip with four people was $180ish. Seemed high until I priced a hotel room on the island then realized that was cheap even with the added park fee.
I can't remember when the season opens back up but I'm thinking April/May.
  • Might be more of a hassle than what it is worth. We would like to take the kids to Cedar Point as well. Perhaps we will stay at a state park close to the theme park instead. We can always catch a ride on the ferry to the island for the day as well.

Have you seen the park? You are camping on the lake! Very pretty but only if you plan on spending the bulk of your time enjoying the park and the island. If you are planning multiple trips off the island, yes I would stay somewhere else.
  • The Cedar Point RV park is very nice but its also a little more expensive so like camperforlife said, if your planning several days away, you might have an issue with the cost.

Keep in mind if you don't camp/hotel on the islands, you don't want to miss the last ferry back to the mainland so keep that in mind.
  • We stayed at East Harbor State Park and then toured Kelly's Island and campground. Isn't bad for a day trip and less expensive to take your toad or truck across the ferry. We found the SP to be excellent and it offered easy access to all the sites we came to see.
If you do stay at the East Harbor State Park, and are a veteran, be sure to check out or ask about vets discount. Did us good.
  • Went to cedar point a couple of years ago and stayed at the CG inside the park.
Cedar Point has a great CG right there I would not stay anywhere else.
We did a day trip to Kelly's Island. Very nice. While I considered taking the RV across on the Ferry I could not justify the cost for the amount of time we planned to be there. If I were local to the area I would certainly stay at Kelly's Island. However I had a lot of exploring to do and opted not to spend too many days at KI.
