Kings Dominion in VA this weekend- Americamps/KOA?

Now the parking is $15, not the $12 it says on their site. We had a good stay, didn't do much at the CG. I will say it was pretty nice though. Good power, water pressure, and wifi. Even though you do hear the traffic all night, I had no problem sleeping with the a/c on. There is an airfield just down the road, so I guess the KD CG would have been just the same. They recently appear to have renovated their bathhouse by the store. Very clean with a/c too.
I will warn anyone thinking about riding the Intimidator 305 roller coaster at KD, it's no joke. I actually experienced the beginnings of blacking out just after the first drop. I thought it was just me getting older until my thrill seeking 14 and 10 year olds said they had a hard time "seeing". Serious g's for a roller coaster!! And it didn't even go upside down.

Glad to hear Americamps is no longer affiliated with KOA. I just could not jusify KOA pricing for an overnight stop.
I honestly don't remember any train issues when a I stayed at KD a couple of summers ago.
Anyway Americamps is a good spot. Just not as close and no shuttle to the park which means you have to pay parking.

I decided to book with Americamps. The train part did it for me. FYI- they are no longer associated with KOA as of yesterday evening. It cost me $35.60 a night with veteran discount (or Good Sam's). I definitely paid more, but I'm a stupid light sleeper. If our cat gets in my room at night, I wake up if she starts licking herself.....

Thanks, it's not like we're going there to camp for the weekend. I may just go with KD as it's convenient, least expensive, and I don't pay to park.

I have stayed at both. While the KD campground may not be my favorite CG in general. It is perfect for a trip to the amusement park.
I cannot see why you would stay anywhere else. Its clean safe etc.
Maybe a bit more transient than most places. But I have no problems staying there.

I'd like to sleep at night, that's for sure. I usually don't hear a ton of traffic in our trailer with the windows closed and air on, but trains are a different animal. Guess there really isn't a great choice near there either way.

Having stayed at both, I would recommend either. At King’s Dominion, you will hear trains before trucks as it sits close to a mile from 95 but has train tracks within 100 yds of property line. Americamps is right along the highway. We are not the heaviest of sleepers and outside noise did not bother us at either. Safe travels.

I like this, I am going to Fort Wilderness later this summer and this looks like a great place to stay over night to rest.

Just got off the phone with KD's cg. It is really cheap at $54.81 for both nights with my Good Sams. Looks like a decent place, both CG's are close to 95, so they're both gonna hear truck noise. I would also save the $12 parking by taking their shuttle..... Hmmmmm.

I haven't read any good reviews about the KD CG, so I didn't really consider it. I know we'll be there late Friday evening, and probably spend most of the day at KD, so I guess the CG doesn't matter a ton, but we appreciate paying our money at nice CG's much better. We don't want to drive any further north as I'm already getting there pretty late. Thanks again!
