That doesn't sound like anyplace I'd want to stay either. We were in St. Augustine the end of July and stayed at Bryn Mawr RV Resort. The sites are a bit snug but the place is right on the ocean with easy beach access and the staff is very accommodating. It also has security gates for which they give you a coded card so you can come and go. It's on A1A if I recall and fairly close to restaurants and a decent drive into the old part of town. We did the Ghost Tour riding in a hearse and the guide took us to some places he doesn't always take everyone (he said) and we found it very interesting. I had researched restaurants before we left and there are a number of good ones and we tried almost all of them. Good luck on your next camping trip.
