Lake Tahoe
On a trip to California on I-80 is it worthwhile to take a detour to see the Lake Tahoe area or better to keep going?

Definitely worth seeing. You can drive around the lake easily in one day and there are plenty of sites to see. On the California side, visit Vikingsholm Castle and Emerald Bay.
Also, stop at Donner Memorial State Park on your way west on I-80.
