- DannyAExplorerPiney on the south side of LBL is very nice. Some full hook up sites if that is what you like. One of our favorite campgrounds.
- TxTwoSomeExplorerOn the east side of lake Barkley is a COE Bumpus Mills it is very nice small campground with about 20 sites.
A word of caution going here if your GPS tells you to go down Hargis road do not. Keep going and it will recalculate.
Close to the town of Dover Tennessee. - obgrahamExplorerWe really liked Piney also. Clean and large sites. (at least they were 6 years ago!)
- Bob806Explorer IIIWe've camped at Energy Lake and liked it a lot. Also camped at Paris Landing SP in Tennessee, that place is nice but not too many big rig sites.
- scrubjaysnestExplorerWe didn't like Hillman, way to large and they hit you with a $10 reservation fee even as a drive up. We prefer the back country sites, $7 per person for 3 days. They also have dry sites that have on site hosts, those are a little more per day.
Check the web site for full details.
Canal is very busy and hard to get into. Haven't been to the ACOE's - padredwNomadWe are staying at Hurricane Creek COE (which I think is on Lake Barkley) on June 19. We have stayed there before and found it to be one of the best COE campgrounds in the country. But there are many good choices around Land Between the Lakes. We have stayed a couple of time at Kentucky Dam Village State Park.
- BumpyroadExplorerI stayed at a campground near Aurora on the water. backed the motor home in 5 ft from the water. had an adjacent marina. Lakeside Iirc
bumpy - ksbowmanExplorer IIWe camped at Piney and Hillman in Sept. 2016. We liked Piney by far, it had very nice restrooms and was a very clean camp. Hillman had old restrooms and even with good attention was hard to keep clean although they tried. We used each as a hub to travel and see all the sites. The wildlife area in the center has buffalo and elk. At that time of year the elk were bugling and we really enjoyed that. We would like to go back as we liked the LBL very well.
- bear1951ExplorerWe camp several times a year at LBL and have for years. The COE campground at Grand Rivers is our favorite. It is just south of Grand Rivers and is named Canal Campground. COE campgrounds are watr and electric only, but this is a great spot. Hillman Ferry is operated by a different organization. Reservations for Canal can be made through rec.gov while Hillman Ferry reservatin info is on lbl.org. I understand that Piney in lbl is a great CG, but I have never camped there. Hurricane Creek on the west side of lbl is a great little COE cg but is a bit far from everything. Hope this is of some help.
BEAR - Johno02ExplorerDepends on whether you have a horse with you or not. We stayed at the horse camp the first time we were there, because it ws in the winter and that was the only one open. Meanwhile, Piney camp is at the south, is very nice, and has one loop of full hookup sites. the rest range from tent camping up to power and water. Some are power only. Hillman Ferry is at the north end has more full hookup sites, and is overall the biggest. But, it is the closest to the interstate and towns, and therefore get a LOT more use and people. Most sites are pretty close to each other, and it can get very crowded. Restrooms in both are very nice, and are cleaned well, but with a bunch of people, it varies. Canal is a COE campground on the north end and is not too crowded, but is more rustic. We like it. Eagle is toward the center, is harder to get to, not as crowded, but is isolated a lot more. Fishing is good at all of them. We stayed at Hillman Ferry one time during Spring Break, it was packed with kids and people on every kind of transportation you could imagine, but everyone was having a good time, and about 9:00 or so it went very quite, as everyone respected quiet hours. It was lots of fun.
