Lassen Volcanic National Park

Would like some good recommendations for open, dispersed camping near Lassen Volcanic National Park. Looks like we waited too long and all the regular campgrounds are booked. We have a 28' trailer and Dodge 1500 4x4.
Thanks in Advance
  • In the Park, you have few opportunities. In the surrounding NFs there are lots of places.
  • We just returned yesterday from Lassen NP. The forest service camp grounds along the way towards the south entrance were closed. Best call before you go.

Lassen National Forest has extended the closures until 6/25. Forest officials are coordinating with the FS Regional Office in SF, state officials, and local county governments. Trying to walk the tightrope keeping everyone happy.

This applies to developed recreation sites. Boondocking/dispersed camping is still allowed.
  • jonaz, my best advice would be to download the MVUMs from the surrounding forests -- the forest roads open for boondocking will be shown on those maps. Plan to do a few hours of scouting in the area before making your final choice.

Also, Google Earth is a big help -- "fly" along those roads and you will see existing campsites. Good luck!
