Last minute Michigan

The DW has gotten fed up with this mid-western heat and has gotten a bug in her craw to hit Michigan. Either the Lake Michigan or the UP. What's the chance of finding a camp site, either COE or state, the last or second last week of August? Driving a B, so no special requirements of size, etc are needed to be considered. All we need/want is elect, cool, quiet, nice campground and a sight or to to see. Good food is always a plus.

  • Also, in my experience, albeit many years ago, there are some very nice, fairly priced, private CGs. With roomy wooded sites, somewhat like a SP. I'd love to know if it's still the case. There is a LOT of forest service land in the north, and I think you can camp just about anywhere on it. Hopefully someone will verify or correct that.
  • Usually not a problem. You also have several Casinos with reason prices for camping and Escanaba fairgrounds. We have travel all over MI and have never made reservations. Always been able to find places to camp. You'll find state parks a little pricey with extra charges for out of state visitors.
