lets race in Charlotte

Anyone have suggestions for a nice CG close to the Charlotte Motor Speedway? Not for the big track race but for the National Drag race which I think is 9/14 or so this year. Would be coming in from the NC coast. Thanks in advance. The full HU sites at the track track are like 100.00 per night unless I read the website wrong. Would make for a pricey weekend!!

I couldn't tell what you were camping in but here are some fairly local cgs. KOA in Fort Mill SC which is just over the state line --- a little south of Charlotte on I-77. High Rock Lake CG in Lexington at I-85 exit 91 --- the speedway is I-85 exit 49. There is also one at Linwood NC but I don't know the name of it. There is an rv resort on Rte 150 near Terrell but again I don't know the name. You might want to check RVParkReviews.com on the last two. I hope you have an enjoyable time while in the area. Razoo's at Concord Mills, which is just down the road from the speedway, has great Cajun food.

That would be Lake Norman Motorcoach Resort. But you don't need a Motorcoach. If anyone stays there, we highly recommend Linbergers restaurant across the street for a great steak.

If you are going to be at the Zmaxx dragway for races, I would recommend staying pretty close to that area. You won't like dealing with the traffic. I-85 is messed up with construction now and is often down to a single lane.

  • Mocky, is it fleetwood that owns it or the city of Concord? I thought one of the TJ salesman said they lease the property. As they park some of their rvs over there as well.

At least you are right next to the drag way there.
  • Check this one out -

It's not a resort, and nothing fancy, but it is clean, full hookups, owner lives on site, and it's on top of the hill overlooking the speedway. Also, very reasonable rates. We spent 4 nights there attending a hockey tournament in Charlotte this spring. You can see the speedway from your site. I would go back again.
  • If you want to eat, sleep, drink, shop, play and pray National Drag Racing for a few days, Tom Johnson's or a surrounding campground will conveniently suffice... at elevated prices. Price relief for camping can be found about 30 minutes away, depending on traffic, in Salisbury @ Bass Lake RV Resort or Rowan County's Dan Nicholas Park (W&E w/dump station).
  • TJ is where they charge $100 + / night during race weekends. Tom Johnsons actually do not own it. it is owned by Fleetwood. it just happens to be right in front of TJ's RV Center. You are paying for the convenience of full hookups and closeness to the track. There are other cg's on the property of CMS that charge less . They have trucks that come around for water, sewer and ice. Of course you pay for any that you use. Then you have to get from them to the track on shuttles or other means.
  • Tommy Johnson Campground. I race there 2 times a year and I always stay there a couple of days before entering the track to stock up of food ext and wash the rig, nice people and very clean with full hookups, don't know what they charge during the race but I pay $50 a night.
