Let's talk about NEXT wintah!

SWMBO (she who must be obeyed) has spoken. Next wintah we're bailing out of Maine the day after Christmas and heading South. Someplace reasonably warm. Cold snaps aren't a concern, just no more snow drifts blocking the doors. Prefer the East coast, but not interested in Florida. Would like a campground or resort where there's some clubhouse or activity center to mingle in with the other snowbirds. Access to a community woodshop would be heavenly! But not a deal breaker.

Looking for suggestions from those who've "been there, done that, got the T shirt".

Don't have a suggestion, but SHE sounds like a very intelligent person.??
  • The best part of our winter trip (down the east coast, a month in FL, then around the Gulf coast to Galveston) was the panhandle of Florida. You won't believe it's the same state. In fact, anything north of Tampa was better than I expected. Check out the Crystal River/Homasssa area. Very popular with northerners.
  • Any place on the east coast except possibly southern Florida can have very cold temps. If you don't want the hectic mid-South Florida then try the Panhandle as far over as Alabama. Not nearly as crowded.

I would not rule out northern Fla as it snowed in northern GA a week ago and in the forecast for Wednesday. It's only your children's inheritance that you are spending. If you do not go first class, your children will.
We head south Christmas day as it's the best day to travel everywhere.
