Looking for a Cool Place to Camp in AZ during the Summer

X2 on Big Lake or the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. If you do decide to boondock in the National Forests, you are limited to a 14 day stay before you need to pack up and move to a different area. Go over that and you're subject to a fine and eviction.

Fool Hollow has many full hookup sites. Look in the Mallard and Redhead loops as they're full hookup. There's even some in Cinnamon Teal.

Full hook ups or will water/electric with a nice dumps station due? if not, why not? (but I digress). :h Canyon point out near the Mogollon Rim is at 7,700'. Big Lake has hook ups at 9,200'. Fool Hollow in Show Low has hook ups and is over 6,000' but you will need reservations at just about any place with hook ups.

Bryce is "doable" in the summer but Zion (and most of Utah's canyon country can be brutally hot). The North Rim is over 9,000' but not sure about the hook ups. There is a nice RV park (Kaibob something), with hook ups in the woods just outside of Jacob lake (47 miles north of the North Rim). There are a number of nice CG's/RV parks in the Flagstaff area. If you are 5,000' or more Arizona summers are nothing but nice.

We live in Show Low just a couple of miles from Fool Hollow Lake. There are full hook-up sites available.
It is a beautiful campground.
The summer temps here rarely reach 90* and the nights are cool. If you are coming in the summer try to make reservations early, this is a very popular destination for the "valley people" (read Phoenix). Our population easily doubles in the summer.

Flagstaff and on the Rim (Payson, Show Low, Pinetop and Greer) are the coolest for summer. Flagstaff has slim pickings for RV parks and from driving by all of them, J&H is the best one but we've never stayed there. We stay either at Bonito national forest campground just outside the gate to Sunset Crater or at Pinegrove national forest campground at the south side of Lake Mary, south of Flagstaff. They are good if you want short-term (14 days).

There are forest campground all along the Rim drive (Hwy 260) from Payson eastward. Just north of Show Low is Juniper Ridge RV. It's a huge complex with many park models but has a section for just RVers and also owners rent their lots (which is better if you can get one). It's very clean, big lots, has a pool, spa, tennis, pickleball, golf, clubhouse and activities. However, true to it's name is has junipers and very few actual shade trees and it's a little lower in elevation than Show Low so it's warmer - although not hot like the deserts. In Show Low itself is Venture In which is popular and others along Hwy 260. Good luck!

Check out the Alpine AZ. area small town basic gas, grocerys and 2 restaurants. 3 rv parks with hookups and Luna Lake campground nearby FS with no hookups and 14 day limit.
