Hi all --We are looking for a bit of a late-planned spring trip... we had a baby last year and have been cooped up too long need to get something on the calendar for preferably the month of March... now I know that is soon and we may be paying the price for not planning ahead, but just looking for any suggestions. Our details:- live outside philadelphia, looking to stay within a 2-day ish drive. florida is doable b/c 95 is so easy...but generally if we could keep it at 1k miles or under that would be best- we really like state & national parks- obviously looking for some decent weather.... doesn't need to be beachall suggestions very welcome - thank you!

The Outer Banks can be nice then - unfortunately it can also be windy and cold. We love Frisco Woods Campground in Frisco - great soundside sites with fantastic sunsets. Very low key, but great beach and lots to drive around and look at ... also a much more interesting drive to get there than all the way down 95....

I think our coolest weather of the year in Florida last year was in March. I probably shouldn't mention this, but we like Laura S. Walker sp in se Ga.

South of the Border has a nice campground with reasonable rates.A little farther south is Colleton State Park.Not too far off I81.We stayed there on the way to Disney in October.

James Island County Park is about 15-20 minutes from Charleston. All sites (a few tent sites excluded) are full service. There is a splash park across from the campground but I'm sure it will be closed this time of year; when child is about 3 it's perfect. Park runs a van to Charleston if you don't want to drive.

We'll be there 4th July week this year followed by a week at Huntington Beach. We do 4th almost every year.

so we just did savannah last march... we loved it. definitely will go back, just not yet.

also we did huntington beach a few summers ago. also loved that - probably the best state park beach location we've been to. Cape Henlopen in delaware would be a close second, but they don't have electricity and you can't run generators! phew, we spent a few nights there in June a few years ago and it was 100 degrees.

anyway... thinking we may break it up and drive philly to raleigh (see in-laws) then either charleston or huntington beach before fla.

so question is --- where is a good spot to stay around charleston?

We were at Huntington Beach State Park in South Carolina over Christmas.Only $180 for 7 days. Nice sites.Some have full hookups the rest are water and electric.Some are in the open,many under trees with vegetation between sites.They have a small store and it's a short walk to the beach from most sites.They also have a Nature Center with many ranger led walks.
You're only a few miles from Murrel's Inlet where there are plenty of good restaurants.We ate at Drunken Jacks.It has good food and nice views of the bay.We live west of Reading,Pa and it took us about 12 hours to get there.We split it into 2 days comming back home.

I would consider Pidgeon Forge/Gatlinburg area of Tennessee. Lots to do, Smoky Mountain National Park, plenty of really nice rv parks as well. The coastal areas can be windy/breezy for little ones.

I vote for Savannah in the spring. the squares are beautiful! Tybee Island State park? Of course you could go a bit further to Florida pan handle,

Double ditto on Savannah. Can even go inland for some beautiful weather in southern GA. Georgia State Parks' website has a map of parks that you can search. They have very nice cgs that we stay in during our trips south.
