Looking for snow birding in Texas

We usually go to Florida for the winter. We are looking for some place in south west Texas. Maybe around San Anton were the weather is comfortable We will be staying for about 3 to 4 months starting in Dec 2016.

Or even a work camp place if anyone knows of one
  • Since you asked about workamping jobs in Texas this site might be of an interest to you:

Also, if you want to stay in state parks or wildlife refuges, write the park directly. They'll have volunteer jobs but they'll give you a RV site.

We've done a lot of volunteering in parks, not only for the free campsite but it gave us purpose and we know it helped out the parks that we enjoy. The parks are very appreciative of volunteers. If you're a workamper you're an employee - quite different. :)

    Good luck!
  • Let me tell you, We drove down the east coast of Texas and then west along the Rio Grand Valley, and then up San Antonio and west last winter. I'll bet we stayed at about a half dozen places and there is only one that I really loved. It was Sandollar Resort & RV Park and we loved it because it had big old shade trees (not so cool for satellite) and nice wide spaces. The staff was awesome. There was a little restaurant across the street for when your own cooking gets a little dull and while Fulton is a small little town, Rockport is just a mile or so down the road and has everything one could want. The resort has its own little park right on the water, so if you'd like to barbeque or just sit and watch the pelicans, its there for you.
The one problem is that I would call about now for reservations.
  • Check out the Kerrville area.... Johnson Creek RV is awesome if you can get in it.... owner is building more spots... Guadalupe RV park is nice too...... if you don't need all the extras and just want a good RV park... I highly suggest By The River RV in Kerrville... big spaces on river for $400 a month...... loved it....
  • We were headed for the RGV this winter but we ran out of time near Galveston. People who went there this year reported unusually good weather and warmth, probably due to ElNino. You're looking at South Padre Island and west from there. It was recommended that I not miss the Big Bend area. I'll pass that along to you.

Definitely go to the snowbirding forum and search for "RGV". Plenty of info there.
  • If you haven't already, you may get more info posting on the snowbird forum.
