Agree, a nice state park. A bit swampy and buggy at some sites even in winter so could be much worse in July (true of the whole state.)
There are some other state parks in the lower Gulf coast area like Collier Seminole, Oscar Scherer, Myakka River,etc with water sports like kayaking although not on the oceanfront.
Further north at the foot of the Tampa Bay Area is a great county park called Fort DeSoto with a lot of waterfront sites and a beautiful beach.
