West Coast to East Coast Route?

I will be traveling from Monterey Bay, CA to Freehold NJ beginning in late March, 2026. I am concerned  about the driving conditions and weather. GS won't even give me a route (can't be routed because they are too far from any roads), and AAA is sending me through Wyoming, Nebraska and Chicago on I-80. I am thinking about dropping down to I-40 to avoid snow and ice, then heading north when I hit I-95 on the east coast. I am not in any hurry, but would like to get there in April. Any ideas?
