When we were there 3 years ago, we stayed at Ne're Beach Family Campground in OOB. It is pretty basic with back-in sites that are all grass/gravel. It has an older bath house, but it was cleaned several times each day and it has a small in-ground pool. It was $30 per day, less than half what the other places were wanting. No, it is NOT a resort, but it is 3 blocks from the beach and is walkable, downtown is just across the street and down one block and the best part - the lobster pound is right across the street from the entrance.
While we were there, we drove through the other resorts and we were pleased with our decision since we were out each day seeing the area and experiencing the beach, lighthouses, and other area attractions and were not depending on the resort to give us something to do. It would have been a waste of our money.
