Maine's Ocean Wood Campground to Re-Open

Closed since 2010, Ocean Wood Campground on Maine's Schoodic Peninsula, has been purchased by Roxanne Quimby. She says the campground will re-open after some minor repairs and renovations. Ocean Wood has some of the most spectacular ocean-side campsites I've ever seen on the east coast.

Here's the article in the Ellsworth American.

Quimby is the woman who donated over 87,000 acres to the federal government, land which President Obama recently declared a national monument.

  • This is the best news I've seen in a long time! Ocean Wood was my favorite campground in Maine and I went there many times over the years it was open. I hope it will be run the same way the previous owners ran it - strict rules on noise so everyone can enjoy the sound of the ocean and nature at its best. The people that camped there were like-minded and everyone got to enjoy the coast of Maine as though it was a private, waterfront estate. Can't wait to get back there.
  • Great! One of these years I want to get to the Maine coast. The pictures I always see are perfect!
