- wbwoodExplorerIt's right there outside of Mayberry. Crosses over I-77. We normally stay at Stone mountain state park where the BRP borders e park on the north! but hey were booked up for that weekend already. Fancy Gap, Virginia has a decent KOA that sits off the BRP as well. Easy to get to off I-77.
- dodge_guyExplorer IIThanks. How far is the Blue Ridge Parkway?
- wbwoodExplorerThanks Beth and Henry. Great blog posting.
- wanderingdawgsExplorerWe were just there a couple of days ago. It's a very nice campground and convenient to Mount Airy and the Blue Ridge Parkway. The Andy Griffith Museum is worth a visit.
Here's a link to my blog post about our stay. Mount Airy and the Blue Ridge Parkway - wbwoodExplorerFHU itself is worth the $30/night
- mockybirdExplorerPrice is good because other than the cg and maybe some fishing, there is not much to do at the cg but rest. We travel into Mt Airy and tour the town or go over to Pilot Mtn. During summer months they have beach music groups at the amphitheater across from the Andy Playhouse. Mostly on Fridays but often any day from wed-sat.. Ask the owner there to give you a tour of the house where the 2 Siamese twins once lived who were in his family. Eng and Change I believe their names were. Great story of their lives.
- wbwoodExplorerThanks Gary...haven't been there yet. Hopefully we will like it. The price is right for sure.
- mockybirdExplorerHey WB. we always go there the first weekend of October and then some other weekends during the year. We love the beach music concerts at the amphitheater downtown. I usually drive to work from there if we stay on a Wednesday or Thursday night. but it's a 2 hour drive so that hurts. We might still be there but haven't booked it yet. Will let you know if we do. We really like staying there.

We stayed at Mayberry Campground last fall, on the way back from Disney World. It was a very nice place. All the power, water, and sewer hookups were new. It seems like the owners have been putting some money into the place. The terrain is hilly, but the sights were level. Lots of pull throughs were available.
If you get a chance, go to the Andy Griffith museum in Mt. Airy's Historic District. If you are there before 2pm, Definitely go to "Snappy Lunch" and try their Famous Pork Chop Sandwich (for $4.05!). It is really quite good.
Have fun!
Yep, we are only an hour from Mount Airy, have been there several times. Although never to the Andy Griffith museum. - wbwoodExplorer
