Memphis in August

DW wants to go to Memphis this August to see Elvis house and to sample some of the best barbeque restaurants. My question is were would be a good place to camp and what are some of the best places to eat?
  • If you don't mind driving across town and crossing the river, then Tom Sawyer is the place for you. It is a nice park. Watching the river traffic is nice.

On the other hand, If you want a nice safe park close by to Graceland, I recommend that you stay at the above mentioned Graceland RV Park.
  • X2 on Tom Sawyer.

Watching the tow boats work upstream with nine or twelve barges just a few feet from your campsite is a kick! Especially at night.
  • Memphis in August, hot hot hot humid, humid, humid. That being said if you are towing a toad the best place to stay around here is Tom Sawyer Park in West Memphis or Shelby Forest State Park a few miles north of Memphis .If no toad then you are pretty much locked into Graceland Rv Park. There are too many good BBQ places to list. Most of them are local places that tourists don't know about .I live next door to. SFSP and it gets a lot of overnite stays. It is easy access from I40 and not bad from I55.Good luck and safe travels .
  • We stayed here and liked the fact that you can walk to all the Elvis stuff. There is (or was, I guess it still runs) a shuttle from the adjacent hotel that will take you downtown to see the Sun recording studios and Beale street. It runs hourly I think, maybe more.

    Graceland RV Park

One of many suggestions you will get. You can search this forum and probably get some old postings that you will find helpful.

I liked BB Kings BBQ as well as any, loved the BBQ spaghetti at Neeleys, BBQ Shop is another good one. I was not that impressed with the Rendezvous.
