Metropolis IL

Heading south in July and plan on stopping in Metropolis for lunch around the Superman museum July 3rd). Has anyone been there? Is there RV parking or room to park 57feet of RV? I looked on the maps and it looks like there could be, but not sure if there is. I seen a parking lot, but it looks like a regular parking lot.

Thanks!
  • believe its a regular parking lot.
Also getting into the square can be tight as I recall.

Thanks. Yes it looks tight. That's why I was hoping there was a lot. Even the street parking looks bad as it's all angles parking.
  • We were just there last February and throughly enjoyed our visit! Parking with an RV could be challenging but if you're willing to walk a little you "may" be able to park on one of the side streets around the corner where you won't need to angle park. A lot is going to depend on what time of day and just how busy downtown Metroplolis is. While we were there, there was PLENTY of close parking (for an RV) BUT you're talking about fourth of July week and that's going to make things harder.

You might give the chamber of commerce a call and see if you can get info from those people. While there check out "Yesterday's Home Cookin" diner. It's a cute diner we found and had LOTS of locals there for lunch the day we were in there. The food was really good and the prices VERY reasonable!

Good luck and enjoy Superman!!! :B

  • We've parked at Harrah's casino, just 4 blocks away, corner of Ferry and 2nd.
There is RV parking and semi truck parking. Parking in front of the casino (on the left) is for cars; on the right is "OVERSIZED PARKING"...tour buses, RV's, etc.
  • We've camped at Ft. Masac(sp? SP and it was OK but I don't remember site lengths. We have a 30 ft. MH. Like many IL SPs it has elec. but maybe not water on site. It's not a real active town but OK.
  • Thanks again. Keep in mind this is only for a lunch stop and to stretch our legs. I'll also have 2 dogs with us. I am driving from the NW suburbs to Huntsville AL., space and rocket museum.
