- welove2driveExplorerSomewhere? What area are you considering? Do you like State Parks or private campgrounds?
- MfanExplorerWhat lake?
- travelnutzExplorer IIOP? Yes, which lake as 4 of the 5 Great Lakes are on Michigan's over 3200 miles of Great Lake's shoreline and yes, there's gobs of campgrounds on the Great Lakes shoreline in Michigan. Not enough to choose from? Then, there's over 11,000 inland lakes also and so many of them also have campgrounds on their shoreline. That's as close to a lake as you can get for a campground! Camping and campgrounds on the shoreline of lakes is a way of life in Michigan as nowhere in the entire State of Michigan can you be more than 6 miles from the water.
- travelnutzExplorer IIWe live at Grand Haven on Lake Michigan shoreline and there's 7 campgrounds on the water's edge (shorelines) here and another 5 within no more than 10 miles from the shorelines here alone. Yes, they are very busy all summer with campers and we could easily use/fill another 6 more campgrounds right here alone.
- GordonThreeExplorerI recommend Benton Lake NF Campground. Lots of sites on the lake for small boating and fishing.
- travelnutzExplorer IIWow!
OP's FMCA member number is 399505 and so much higher than ours when we had our first motorhome and our FMCA membership as it was just over the 110000 number. Nearly 4 times more FMCA memberships now.
OP's info shows he has a 40' Discovery MH and most likely would like or want some hookups or a full hookup CG site and must be large enough for his MH and most likely his toad also. Sure would be nice if he'd give us some more info as to where in Michigan and what they want or need for a site close or on a ? lake as there's so many to choose from at over 500 campgrounds with many thousands of campsites that could nicely fit his original question alone here in Michigan. 100+ state park CG's alone in the state. Campgrounds are everywhere and all over in our state as it's a real heaven for camping, RV'ing, boating, fishing, and watersports, and so much more. - rexlionExplorerMill Creek cg, Mackinaw City. Near water, lighthouses, boat ride to island, historic forts, little shops, and an amazing bridge. Local bakery has fabulous cinnamon bread and pecan rolls.
- Shot-N-AzExplorerIt depends on what you want. We like the Petoskey area and have stayed at both the Petoskey RV Resort and Hearthside Grove Motorcoach Resort. The RV resort used to be motorcoach only but now accepts all RV types. Hearthside Grove is out of this world luxury.
- nickthehunterNomad III would choose an inland lake, they are warmer, calmer and more pleasant if you ask me. Cadillac, Indian lake, houghton lake, there's about a thousand choices.

Looking at going to somewhere in Michigan and was looking for some suggestions on a campground close to the lake ?
I assume you mean one of the Great Lakes. There are a number of state park campgrounds situated on the Lake Michigan shore that offer access to miles of sandy beach, hiking trails, and dunes, as well as plenty of private campgrounds. My own opinion is that the stretch from Warren Dunes SP north to Ludington SP has the best swimming beaches in the state.
