Mid to South Florida ....Does this campground exist?

I am looking for my dream campground for dipping my toes into the snowbird lifestyle. Here is what I am looking for. Middle to South Florida (below the freeze line) for the 2014/2015 winter.

1. Affordable. I will only be able spend maybe 6 weeks of the winter actually at our RV in Florida. I would rather not spend huge amounts of money for a fancy place.
2. Family friendly. Not interested in a 55 and over resort. My wife and I are under 50 and our daughter is 12.
3. Pool
4. Big rig friendly and full hook up with 50amp.
5. Clean and safe is a must!

I don't think that what I am looking for should be all that hard to find but after spending hours searching on line it seems like most all the places that would work are all 55 and older.
Any ideas or recommendations? Thanks

We raised two daughters (now young adults) and I know for sure when they were teenagers neither one of them would have wanted any part of staying at your average Florida RV park in the winter. They would have rolled their eyes at me and said "Daaaaaaaad, every one here is old". ;)

Give them the choice of spending a couple weeks in the average Florida RV Park OR spending a couple more weeks in cloudy, cold and snowy Ohio. :B I am not giving up!!...lol
  • Of the three RV parks we stayed at last winter we didn't see any families like yours, other than during spring break time.

We did see occasional visits by camper's grandchildren but it appeared to be only for a weekend and they were few and far between.

Are you expecting to see lots of families such as yours at these RV parks?
All the RV parks we have either visited or stayed at in Florida over the winter (other than during spring break) are about 99% inhabited by snowbirds....who are 55 and older, and these places aren't advertised as "55 and over parks".

It would be nice to see families like ours. Even though my daughter will only spend a couple of weeks total at the camper it would be nice if she could find some other kids to to get to know and to be able to hang out with.

  • Thousand Trails Orlando fits the bill. Don't know if it qualifies for mid to south FL, though.
  • Check out Sun N' Fun RV Park in Sarasota Fl. Easy access. Exit 210 on I75. Turn left on Fruitville Rd. Older versions of Streets and Trips have it located the other direction on Fruitville Rd. If you can't find some activities that you'll enjoy there, you simply can't be satisfied. And you're only 7 miles east of downtown Sarasota.
  • Thanks Guys.... Your right there are TONS of campgrounds in the area that I am looking at and thats what makes this a bit daunting for me. There are way to many options and lots of them have bad reviews. There are just to many resorts to try and research each and everyone of them. I would end up being over 55 by the time I was done :)
  • There are lots of RV resorts in the area you mention.

There are many more inder 55 parks than over 55. Generally, over 55 parks are mobile home in nature not RV Resort.

Here is a link to one with an excellent reputation: Sun & Fun

    You can start there.

    Hope this helps.
