Most of the military installations that I have visited in the past seven years do not require decals. Mine expired in 2006 and have never been renewed. I have never had to register at the gate. All I have had to do was show my ID card and away I went.
I just went to the Navy Hospital in Beaufort and the Parris Island Marine base in South Carolina last week and all I had to do was hand the guard my ID. The car I was driving does not even have an expired decal.
Beale AFB, FE Warren AFB, Lackland AFB, Sheppard AFB, Nellis AFB and the one in the middle of California do not require decals.
Seems tht decals are a thing of the past. They were not very secure anyway as back in the day a visit to most any Gypsie car dealer within a 20 mile radius of a military installation would find at least one vehicle on the lot with a current year base decal that someone forgot to remove before the vehicle sold.
Physical hands on of the ID and face-to-face of the occupant s MUCH better security-wise and only takes a few seconds longer for a trained MP/SF/SP.
