- KountryguyExplorerThat worked! Thanks.
- BizmarksMomExplorerAre you looking for a place near the preserve so you can explore it? Or are you looking for a place to ride in the desert? Little Dunes OHV is closer to Death Valley. There's a ton of boondocking near Ridgecrest, too. Rigs of all shapes and sizes use Wagon wheel and Charlie's Place. No scouting around required - pull off of the Trona Rd and find a flat spot.
When I went through Mojave Nat. Preserve to explore the place, I used Midlands Campground to drop my trailer before scouting around. (Dry, and cheap) your trailer won't fit up there, though. You will fit at Afton Canyon and at Hole in the Wall. There are dispersed campsites off of the dirt roads. Without knowing the ground clearance of your rig, and what your risk tolerance is, your best bet is to drop the trailer at a campground or at the visitor's center and then prospect around. - Off_PavementExplorer IIMaybe this is your spot...
Mojave Preserve Boondocking Spot
There are many others, but you are gonna have to find them on your own... sorry! - garyhauptExplorerExcept for the two organized cap grounds..the whole of the Preserve is open to boondocking. If you were to turn into the Preserve from any highway...onto a paved road...from that point on-wards...it's all yours to enjoy.
Perhaps I should add that I worked there for the NPS for 10 weeks.

Here is where we spent the night, just outside the preserve.
