Monahans Sandhill State Park, Tx

Howdy, anyone have any Intel, good or bad, about Monahans Sandhills State Park? Contemplating staying there in the near future? Many thanks...
  • Thanks for the info! Just using it as a quick stop between El Paso and Abiline.
  • It is a convenient stop if traveling on I-20 and you won’t go to I-10.

    Balmorhea is a better campground/ destination. However, Balmorhea can be impossible to get into at times.

    Monahans is a neat overnight stop and priced right.

    No reason to not stop if it fits your driving plans.
  • I think the campground is OK. But there is really nothing to do there other than to play in the sand. The dunes are fun to slide down, but probably only once or twice for an adult.
  • I was there last month; kind of an odd place to camp; I only saw a couple of pads that you back into - the rest was like camping on the side of the road; It was also windy and lots of sand being blown about;
  • Lots of sand - we stopped in on the way by to have lunch - I personally would camp at BALMORHEA STATE PARK 85 miles west - they have sites with water,electric and TV plus a huge spring fed pool
    But my favorite is Davis Mtn State park 120 SW of Sandhills - has full hookups with cable - we were there again 2 weeks ago

    Texas has at least 27 state parks with full hookups
