- FXSTOHIOExplorerIn the Badlands area I always stay in Wall at Sleepy Hollow which is about 3 miles from the Badlands. To See Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse I stay in Hill City at Rafter J Bar and I stay in Custer State Park Game lodge Campground. You might also look at staying in the Badlands at the Park Camp Ground and at Wind Cave Camp Ground I like them all the only problem is Wind Cave has no dump station.
- kknowltonExplorer III don't recommend camping in one spot and visiting both the Badlands and the Black Hills, as they are quite some distance from each other. That would be like camping in one place to visit the Adirondacks and the lower Hudson valley. If you are traveling out there via I-90, you can drive the Badlands loop just off the interstate on the way to the Black Hills (where Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer SP, Wind Cave NP, Jewel Cave NP, etc. are), or if you want to stay and have more time to explore a bit, a night or two at the White River-Badlands KOA is what I'd suggest. Shade trees, clean facilities, pool, etc. Trust me, the Badlands can be HOT in the summer.
For the Black Hills, there are lots of good CGs. Our choice there was the Rafter J Bar Ranch CG - go for the (Upper) Ranch or Island sections as the best choices there. Custer SP has some nice CGs, one or two with electric hookups. Several other private CGs there too that many people have liked. - dons2346ExplorerThis is a pretty nice campground Fort Welikit
- dalenoelExplorer III don't know which are the best but we are looking at TeePee Campground.
