Was researching USFS Mountain Park Campground off Hwy 14 in Poudre Canyon in Colorado—about 8 miles before Rustic, CO. The campground will accommodate our 30’ fifth wheel. In the RVParkReviews website one guy mentioned “the last 7 miles was white knuckle driving”. We were on this road many years ago, but with a smaller camper. I can’t really figure out what he meant by his comment. Any comments on his comment? Just curious.
If he's a flatlander, then perhaps going through a narrow canyon might be something of a "white knuckle" experience. As Colorado mountain roads go, the Poudre Canyon/CO 14 is not a difficult drive. There are 2 "narrows" areas in the canyon, the "big" narrows and the "little" narrows, determined by their narrowness and length. I drive up there frequently, and will be going up the weekend after Labor Day to the other side of Cameron Pass. The roadway itself is not in the best condition in the lower part of the canyon, and could use a good resurfacing. But difficult? Nope.
As for Mountain Park, that's a really nice place to stay. Some electric sites, showers, and right by the river. Some good hiking and (from what I hear) fishing in the area as well.
