Mountaineer Campground, Townsend, TN

I would like to give this family owned and operated campground a shout-out and recommendation. My review on rvparkreviews.com will be delayed until I write more reviews. It is located just outside the GSMNP on the TN side - very close to Cades Cove. We stayed for a week and a half. Our site was directly on the Little River and our deck was perfect for watching the "tubers" stream by. This is a 50 site campground with beautiful mature trees. We did not have any trouble parking our 30 ft travel trailer. There is a pool (it's older, but very clean and well maintained) They have a access pinpad to get into the restrooms. They were always immaculate. No complaints from the 20, 17 or 16 year olds I still take on vacation. Oh wait, I still take them on vacation - they better not complain!!

If you are looking for a low key, comfortable, shady campground, give it a try. You can still take in Sieverville and Pigeon Forge and then retreat to the quiet of Townsend.

  • Thanks for the info. Gotta remember that. Sounds real nice.
  • Just returned from Smokey Mountain NP..... Stayed 3 nights at Mountaineer CG.
Smaller campground, right on the river, very well maintained, quiet and very comfortable accommodations. The owners are very kind and gracious people. Also only about a half mile to the NP entrance....... definitely would go back
