Myrtle Beach

Which campground in Myrtle beach for 4/2014? I pretty much know it will be a parking lot. Doesn't need to be ocean front but I do want to be close. How soon do I need reservations? 23 ft htt 30 amp,two adults no children.
Is a shaded site important that early in the season?
Any wisdom you can impart is welcome.
  • If you have a Coast to Coast membership, try Briarcliff. It is out on Hwy 17 by BareFoot Landing but it's not on the water. But a heck of a rate if you are a member and it would work for you.
  • Drove throughout MBTP today. Not too bad of a place. Better than Apache for sure. We would make it a destination if we wanted it more quiet and didn't want to bring the golf cart. Not crazy about the dirt roads, but it is what it is.

Brian, the dirt roads are not too bad, they scrap the roads every couple days or so and after every rain. We're there primarily in the off season so it isn't very crowded and it is quiet. You'll find many more golf carts (privately owned) during the winter months because they are permitted on the beach between December and March 1st. MBTP require a permit from them and proof of insurance. Also, I believe that a certification of a disability is required for a golf cart permit there but I could be wrong.

I like the fact that MBTP takes the golf cart issue seriously.
  • Ocean lakes requires permit and insurance as well. They just allow everyone to bring them in as long as they do that and not just perm residents. Lakewood did the same thing, but they rented out golf carts as well. Then in the last few years, they started following suit with ocean lakes, except you had to store them there and pay their storage fees.

Still offers two different experiences. I do however think that MBTP could lower their rates some. They are about the same as OL and offer less amenities and activities than OL does. I did expect to see more big rigs there, but was amazed that it was mostly towables.
  • Dirt and big rigs don't mesh together...And when the surf comes up high from a storm or something, it floods part of the areas near the walk through areas . Big rigs hate this as do many others.
