Often RV parks have minimal staff after peak hours, so most either wait, or drive around the park looking for a staff person to let them know you're there.
The big scary surly man who's leaving ashes all over the park (Oh my!) asks if he could help you and your first response is: Are you smoking?
"We learned that we needed to check-in FIRST then proceed to the space HE assigned (what a power-trip, the place was half empty!)"
Power trip? Most RV Parks operate the same way, check in, then space assignment. It goes a long way toward security and safety of guests.
Even if the place was half empty, you don't know if, nor which, spaces were reserved.
I get the feeling that you expected a marching band and hand maidens to greet you upon entrance. Sorry, but I think I'd avoid you before I'd avoid Napa Valley Expo RV Park and the big scary surly man who smokes and leaves a trail of ashes all over the park.(Oh my.)
