When in Memphis stick to Beale Street. Don't wander about at night. I don't mean to scare you but Memphis is not a safe city outside the tourist areas. Common sense is in order.
Don't miss seeing the Hermitage when in Nashville. Broadway st. is the main attraction there, lots of good restaurants and live music. As mentioned the parks on Music Valley Drive are good and on the shuttle stops. Seven Points is nice I hear too but not as convenient.
