Natchez Trace - OK to miss the first few miles at north end?

Next week is when I plan to tow our 30' 5th-wheel down the trace. My first visit. To get to the start or near the start from where we are now in central KY, I'm planning on taking US-31E south to US-231S to Murfreesboro. Then TN-96 west to the Natchez Trace. It looks like it crosses the trace about 4 or 5 miles south of the start. By taking this round-about route I intend to avoid any hint of city (Nashville) congestion.
My question: Is there anything significant I will miss by not starting on the trace at the exact northern end?

We did the Trace this past March. Came from Canada around the west side of Nashville on 96 and just followed the signs for the start of the Trace. An easy exit and good road for a bit till you hit the start of the Trace. If you start further down, you just miss a bit of scenery......I just wanted to be able to say I did the whole 444 miles. Stay in Tupelo for your first stop on the Trace......interesting town. Elvis's birthplace and the original hardware store worth a visit.

    NO Wait!!!!
In the first 3 or 4 miles you will miss a few low limbs and a couple very sharp turns. What more can I say.

Yep I would do as you have plans.
  • Concur with those before me - lots to do, and the traffic isn't on the list ;)
  • The only things you miss is some scenery which you will see plenty of the rest of the way down
