But I'm more concerned that young families get to our NP's. Children benefit greatly by seeing the real world instead of only experiencing places via electronic media.
Good point. If we want the NP system supported long term, we should be providing programs to encourage kids to visit the parks.
If they grow up never having visited one, do you think they will support funding for the parks?
Shouldn't that be the responsibility of the parents? I grew up visiting our great nation, not because of government programs, but because my parents cared. You can have all the programs in place you want, if the parents aren't going to bring them there, they'll be worthless.
All these people complaining about the senior citizens getting a $10 lifetime pass...I don't get it. I've not seen or read any news about the NPS going broke because they're over run with seniors not paying their "fair share". Give me a break. You should be focusing your attention on politicians who mismanage your money.
As others have said, if you feel bad about getting a discounted pass then pay full price, but don't complain about others who take advantage of the discounted price. These seniors have most likely spent their entire life working and paying taxes. If they get a break on something as insignificant as this, then good for them!
No, I am not a senior citizen.
