My DD lives in Raleigh area (Holly Springs), and I am looking to take TT to visit for Christmas. I see NC State Fairgrounds has over 300 sites but does not accept reservations. Reviews look pretty goo...

Please understand that this is not an RV Park. I really don't think you will have any issues at all camping at Christmas at the Fairgrounds. The demand for campsites in this area is just not high at all that time of year.
You can call 919-612-6767 a couple of days before you leave if that will help you. This is the number for the 24/7 Security who looks after the campground area. Also, Joel Keith is the Public Safety and Security Manager. His number is 919-839-4508.
