NE GA mtns

I have checked rv park reviews for info, but I like bouncing things off on you all too! We are looking at possibly going to this area for about a week this summer. We tend to like state parks due to the more natural type sites (read we detest parking lot style cg's). So Vogel is high on our list. However some of the private cg's in the area look promising...as it would be nice to have FHU for the longer stay (but that is not a deal breaker). Would love to hear your thoughts on the cg's and the area in general. Would also love to hear dos and don't s regarding routes coming from SC on 85. DH is gets a little "squirrelly" driving in the mtns. Thank you!
  • Make your choice and reservations early as that area is very popular during the summer, mostly because of us Floridaians trying to escape the heat. Ga. does have very nice state parks, one of our favorite States to camp in.
  • All the the Georgia state parks are beautiful and you can't really go wrong with any of them, except Amicalola, which has a 25% grade going into the CG.

We have our own RV lot near Vogel. We like full hook-ups and a place where we can get signal on our satellite dish. We explore from there.

    Full hook-up sites available.

State Park - nice tree'ed campground, some sites close by, but not like private CG's.

It's hard to beat Vogel. TrackRock is nice enough and they have horseback riding. I would use GoogleMaps route to Clayton even for coming to Blairsville. 129 south of Vogel is very mountainous and slow going with a RV.

Double ditto. Unicoi has SOME full hook ups so call ahead and check. Here's the website for the park with the phone number http://www.gastateparks.org/unicoi/
Their rates are better than the private campgrounds.

Moccasin Creek State Park does not have FHU but it's a nice quiet little park on Lake Rabun. You can get there without significant mountain road driving. It's closer to SC and very close to Clayton and Dillard Georgia with their tasty restaurants.

Enjoy your trip. We like that area and have even flirted with buying a house near Mountain City.
