Need any and all ideas for things to see and do in Michigan

Going to spend a month or so "Doing" Michigan this summer and would appreciate any and all ideas of things to see and do in Michigan. Thanks one and all.
  • In Detroit is a terrific tour of the Ford F-150 factory and an extensive auto museum. Well worth the trip. In the UP of Michigan everything is beautiful. Mackinac Island is a must and the locks at Sault Ste. Marie (great campground as well along the river). Petoskey and Traverse City are great stops as well as Sleeping Bear Dunes. So much to see and never enough time!

Both Great Lakes? How about THREE Great Lakes! Superior, Huron and Michigan

  • Michigan is a big and varied state. You are asking a very broad question.
Knowing the interests of you and your family would help greatly.
Michigan has lots of great natural areas both in the U.P. and below the bridge.
But it also has a lot of human history as well, for example, the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn. What interests your family?

You might start by picking several "hubs" that you want to camp in (SW, SE, NW, NE, E-UP, W-UP) and then use the internet and this forum to explore what's there that may interest you. Perhaps saying something like: "I'm going to spend a week in the Eastern UP - what suggestions do forum members have to see in that area?" And then a couple of weeks later, ask about another area you plan to visit. Much easier to respond to specific requests than for covering an entire state.
  • While you are waiting:
Search this Forum for `Michigan' and/or do a Google search for `Michigan tourism' and read what the specialists recommend.
  • Of course, you will want to do Mackinac. Stay at the Mill creek campground near Mackinaw City. There is a great state historical park within bicycling distance that has a working water driven saw mill. Really cool! Colonial Michilimackinac, Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse, And yes, you will want to plan on going to the Island, also.

Find a local restaurant that serves Pasties. They are something everyone must try while there.
