On our last camping trip we spent two month celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary and enjoyed almost as much as our first years camping. Spend the time enjoying each other. Enjoyment of sites and campgrounds will come naturally. Do not place stress on each other trying to get to "some exotic place".
I would recommend Lake Catherine as it is a beautiful park and is close enough to Hot Springs for other things to do. I don't remember any steep hills going there. You can take route 7 as a side trip to see the fall foliage. Good luck in your future.
