Do you mean Trenton Lobster Pound? That's the one right on the causeway.

Old Sturbridge Village on I-90, middle of Mass is great. 1800's historical settlement about as real as it gets. Excellent all day trip for kids or adults.

For Boston Area Minuteman CG in Littleton Mass. Bar Harbor KOA right near Acadia is A+ make sure you stop at Trents Lobsta Pound right on the causeway. Best 2.5 pound lobsta I ever had. Lower VT Brattleboro KOA we stayed there last summer Rte 9 will take you through the mountains to Albany NY and points west. Lots of fun

If you intend to visit Freeport/LLBean, and are looking for a CG to stay at, you could try the Freeport Village CG or the Freeport KOA (actually in Durham)...however, as others have said, book early!

The drive from Mystic to Newport is probably 1 to 1 1/2 hours each way since RI doesn't have a decent East-West route from 95 to Newport.

The so called Coastal Route doesn't really give you much view of the coast until you get to Belfast and in the summer the route is sloooooooowww. There are a lot of pretty little towns along the route which keep your speed down to about 35 mph. My wife and I love that route in the Fall when the tourists have gone home and the foliage is ripe.

Good start to the trip, but don't bypass Boston! We stayed at the Middleboro KOA and took the T into Boston harbor. We then walked the Freedom Trail to Quincy Market, then onto the North End for a little Italian food and pasteries. Don't forget one of the last wooden baseball stadiums, Fenway Park shouldn't be missed. Then onto Freeport, ME, LL Bean and one of the best Lobster rolls you will ever have at Linda Bean's. If it's late in the day they have limited RV parking. Up to Bar Harbor and my favorite place Acadia NP. Over thru NH, Mt. Washington and then to VT. Leaving Burlington, head over to Lake Placid/ Saranac Lake area for a few days or a week.

As everybody else has said, make reservations early/soon, particularly for the weekends and doubly so if you're camping on July 4th weekend.

What sorts of things are you interested in? I get the general impression that rural/natural areas and activities may be higher on the list than cities and nightlife.

Consider spending a day or two in the White Mountains of New Hampshire; there's lots to see and do there, several very pretty drives, and many places to camp.

The Vermont state parks are lovely but don't have many camping amenities--typically, you get a picnic table and a fireplace/fire ring in the site, a simple but functional bathhouse (pay showers), a dump station, and central fresh water spigots. None have hookups in the sites. Many have rather limited site selections for larger RVs (but maybe not quite as limited as the web site listings sometimes suggest). Brighton State Park, in Island Pond, is one very nice park (on a little lake).

In the Burlington area, the city of Burlington has a campground at North Beach (with hookups). The beach is very nice, though popular during the day, and the bike path runs through the park (and extends for many miles). I've also stayed at Apple Island Resort, in South Hero (island), and was generally satisfied. They do have a neat antique tool museum there (mostly hand tools).

The Shelburne Museum is also worth a day or two to check out. It has an very eclectic collection, including hat boxes, a lightouse, a walking beam steamship, folk art, and a carousel.

Yes, indeed, make reservations soon. Bar Harbor KOA is our favorite-pricey but worth it. Keep in mind a lot of Maine's coastal route doesn't give you a view of the coast. It's also very sloooow during high season.
