New York City?

You're at Normandy Farms and going to NYC? Do you realize that it's a 4 hour drive?

Most people who visit NYC stay at Liberty Harbor.

I am a refugee from the east coast, and will do my best to start an answer.

For Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty, your hang up will be the tour boat schedule. I don't know what they are doing these days.

If by the Met, you do mean the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Well, that is a day killer all by itself and then you have to walk fast. Times Square, unless you want to look in all the souvenir shops is about 15 minutes and most of that will be dodging the panhandlers.

Liberty Harbor is closer, and convenient to a cross-river transportation. There is also an RV park up river that is close to the railroad.

We stayed at Croton Point Park on the Hudson. It's in the middle of all the cool mansions along the river and we could walk to the train station that took us into NYC.

There is a lot that one can see and do in NYC, so I would not suggest skimping on the time if you're interested in that sort of tourism and cultural enrichment and whatnot. I suspect you would have no trouble keeping busy for a week or more if you wanted.

As others have said, staying at Normandy Farms to visit NYC makes no sense. It's somewhat like camping somewhere between Seattle and Vancouver to visit Portland. You will spend more time getting to and from the city than doing things in the city, repeatedly. It looks to me like the quickest way in would be via the Acela train from Providence, RI, about three and a half to four hours travel time. Liberty Harbor is the usual campground suggestion. I've stayed at Floyd Bennet Field (in southeastern Brooklyn) not long ago and it can also be entirely workable, though I suspect for most people Liberty Harbor might be a more practical choice overall. Getting from Floyd Bennet Field to Times Squar takes about an hour and a half, perhaps as little as an hour if the bus and subway schedules cooperate just so. Liberty Harbor seems to be about 45 minutes to an hour travel to Times Square.

We have visited NYC many times and you could spend weeks visiting stuff and walking miles in the process.

My question would be how much stamina do you have and what’s your budget?

So see the museums. Do the Empire State and Chrysler buildings.
Eat in Little Italy, China town, Katz’s Deli. If you love Pizza do Scott’s Pizza Walk
Hot dogs at Grays Papaya, Burger from Shake Shack.

Times Square, The 911 memorial, Highline Park, Central Park, Grand Central Station,
Do a Broadway Show, ride the Staten Island Ferry, The West Village.

That’s my short list.

I agree the commute does not make sense.

Our best visits were when we would get a room midtown. That lets you get up early , hit the town early in the AM see a lot, take a nap, maybe grab a shower then go back out.

Normandy Farms is for touring the Boston area. For NYC, Ellis Island, Statue of Liberty, you want Liberty Harbor. For FDR's home and that area, look around Newburgh. Believe me, you want to keep your commutes as short as possible.

I failed to mention that the walking tour of Harlem was one our met amazing and enlightening experiences.

Don’t even get me started on Brooklyn.

Sorry, we had planned ewburgh KOA for NYC. We thought it would make sense since we want to see the Hyde Park mansions & others toward Tarrytown, it just NYC. We would like FHU since we will be in the area for a while... We prefer not to relocate once we are parked. So far, Croton Point & Newburgh seemed to make the most sense, but we are from the west coast. Thanks! Sorry for my goof.

Newburgh is a bit better than Normandy Farms for touring NYC, but it's still a good ways out and you'd still spend a few hours each day you're in the city getting there and back.

Croton Point or Liberty Harbor would make more sense for the NYC part of the time, Liberty Harbor particularly for the city proper. I would pack up and move between the Hyde Park area and the NYC area sites. I will also add that I tend to do very little to set up and break camp, so moving around is not too big an ordeal for me compared to some other RVers who prefer to set up and enjoy their outdoor mats, grills, gazebo tents, chairs, pink flamingos, etc.
