This is a good idea on how tight the sights get at Liberty Harbor but looking at the early evening views of the Freedom Tower was just awesome!
Mike
Was sitting here thinking "Freedom Tower, huh!?!"
Then the back story came back to me.
Too old/obstinate to be further confused so I call it 1 WTC (aka the trade center) just like the post office. 'Course I still refer to Avenue of the Americas as 6th and Fashion Avenue as 7th Ave sooowhaddayagonnado;).
Amazing what the RV park looks like when full. I think I viewed it during early winter. - mdcampingExplorerThis is a good idea on how tight the sights get at Liberty Harbor but looking at the early evening views of the Freedom Tower was just awesome!
Mike - jpbuch9309ExplorerAlot of low clearence in that part of NY be careful
- buc1980ExplorerBe careful with the bridges some of them are so low.The best way to visit NY is with the train and subway.I end up in NY with my FW and it was a big stress. If I don't stop to ask a policemen I still will be there.Streets, bridges, toll and traffic is the problems.

The station maybe .8 from the park entrance. However you still need to get from the CG to the park entrance.
From there it is about an hour train ride to NYC grand central station?
Croton is a good place but you'll spend quite a bit of time traveling to NYC vs. Liberty harbor.
I'll be honest I wasn't tired doing the walk to the picnic grounds at Croton but again I wouldn't suggest it for a longer stay. Another nightime walking problem would be there are limited sidewalks (how I know I'm in "the country";))and even less street lights.
I think the Liberty vs Croton choice boils down to this: pay $95.00 daily for a short commute (10-15 minutes) and stay in a parking lot w/ some pretty views, power and electricity w/ dump station or stay in a spot more like a SP (Croton is run by the county) with an average daily rate of $45.00 and a 1 hour commute, still with hook up amenities.
Pretty well sums it up. I have been to both and enjoy both. However if your goal is mainly to tour and see the city I consider Liberty a better choice. - NYCgrrlExplorer

Croton on Hudson
Walking distance to a train. Check out the reviews. 7.5 on RVParkReviews is pretty high.
It is close to the train station, But I would not call not walking distance. Maybe 2-3 miles? From CG to train station.
It is a decent alternative. Not quite as convenient or close as Liberty Harbor. But it is a FHU CG in a state park setting
I think under 2 miles but either way definitely doable on a bike
According to the MTA (local public transport authority):CROTON HARMON STATION 0.8 mile to Croton Point Park
Now I've walked to the park from the MetroNorth station but that was just a day trip with nothing more than picnicking gear. Also as a "native New Yorker" (city variety), walking 2 miles is no biggie BUT I realise that this might sound daunting for people with regular access to cars and truth be known you'll get quite the work out walking the concrete canyons. So my suggestion should you choose this campground, is to bike, taxi or drive yr own vehicle to the train station and park in the station's commuter parking lot; it'll be perfectly safe.
As an aside I asked my BigSis who lives near Croton Point to drive over and scope the campground out for me but she's an unrepentant snob who thinks RVing is only one tiny step up from tent camping and refuses to "enable" me. I still love her despite this apparent character flaw;).
For a 1 or 2 day trip to the city I'd just grin and bear Liberty Park RV Park. At least you'll have Brookfield Place nearby for nice restaurants, marketing, and sightseeing as well as ferries back to NJ. At nearby Eataly (part of the WTC complex) you'll get fantastic eats but just like Brookfield Place make sure your pocketbook is loaded with ducats. There's also a Whole Foods in the area as well as Chinatown. I can tell you nothing about Little Italy since it's now mostly a tourist strip of restaurants w/ no particular renown as a bone thrown by the Chinese who bought up the area long ago, LOL. Still, if you long for superlative Italian food stuff in downtown Manhattan there still is
http://www.seriouseats.com/venue/di-palo-fine-foods. Just as a head's up, the smoked ricotta is to die for when it's available.
As much as I've enjoyed Floyd Bennett Airfield (used to have a garden plot there) it seems the only route to it from the Jersey side would involve traveling almost the full length of Flatbush Avenue which is a bit hard to navigate at times.
Here's hoping the local, state and federal authorities get together to provide more access for RVs to this locale. It's really beautiful and close to Riis to boot.
To my way of thinking the RV parks near West Point and Bear Mountain are too far away even if they are more traditional in their offerings. I mean how can you enjoy the amenities when you get back bone tired from a full day in NYC?
HTH and have fun out there. - NunyadamnExplorerWe stayed at Liberty Harbor in June for a week. It is the best location you will find. As others have said, it is a quick walk to the Path station to get over to the city. If your only staying a day, you could stay somewhere else and take a tour or something, but if your staying longer, I would not want to ride a train/bus for hours a day to get to the city. The spots are just big enough. I have slides on one side and steps on the other. I was right on the lines on both sides. No issues with length though (35ft travel trailer and parked my truck up front). Like others have said, it's just a parking lot with power and water at the sites and a dump station on-site. Out our side door we could see the statue of liberty and out the other side we could see the world trade center/Manhattan.
