- gonefishin_ExplorerThis was our first winter as snowbirds and we headed to Harlingen, TX. While the weather wasn't as warm as we were hoping, according to the locals it was probably the coolest they've had in a long time; it was considerably warmer than the -17 Iowa got this winter.
We were very happy with the resort we went to and 95% of the residents were very warm and inviting.... there's always a few in the bunch.
The resort we went to had so many activities that if you wanted to you could be busy 24/7 or you could do nothing at all if you chose. The price was a little spend cause we paid month by month and didn't book ahead to get a better rate. We met so many new friends and can't wait to come back next year or reconnect during the summer.
Haven't been camping in Florida but RGV was just fine for what we were looking for.... to get out of the cold and make new friends. - StephJohn2010ExplorerI've changed my tune on Florida since my earlier post. Central Florida has been a nice surprise :) Very nice up here.
- joebedfordNomad IIWe're in AZ this winter and won this year's weather lottery by a long shot.
Next year FL and after that probably TX again. They're all different - each have pluses and minuses. - BarneySExplorer III

Man this ...... match was not my intention at all, at all. In good faith, I wanted a little feedback on what the RV Park rates elsewhere could be for next winter. That's all - a pure and simple question - or so I thought
Uh huh. :R
Seems to me that Boston Blacky got exactly what he asked for. :B
Barney - Us_out_WestExplorerYup..those that hijack a thread for their own personal gratification are the real 'trolls'.
Like to help the OP with his original request for info but can't...but I did have to say something.
Safe travels..... - Luke_PorterExplorer

Then there was even a remark about 'trolling' whatever that is!! For now, we'll return to this same spot (6th. yr.) and I might even try to ask a more "reasonable" question to ya'all next season. A question like ... where did you get your educated???
p.s. And Happy St. Paddy's Day to all.
Actually--what you said is--can a good RV/Resort park in Florida beat $1,950 (minus electric??....don't think so.
That's not a question--it's an inflammatory statement.
. - elle8Explorermorning ,,, wow,,, these sites really get off the topics , dont they , ask a question about flying a kite and some knucklehead will explain how the space shuttle will land on the moon . so here is my 2 cents . are you having fun and enjoying every single day of your life seeing it is just flying by in light speed . i personally feel at this stage in my life , its time to really value whats left . for a very long time i have lived my life with the motto ,,,,im going to be dead a very long time ,, so i have always tried to live it up . i intend to continue doing that , however at a slower and wiser pace . i am still trying to get use to the slower part . dam male ego of mine . it still thinks i can go out and play short stop like i did 40 yrs ago . well, i cant but i can enjoy life and i do find things i have missed out on when i was younger . im thinking i should stop taking things for granted as i did when younger and see whats really important . something like seeing just how lucky i am to have a problem as to stay in florida or texas .

p.s. And Happy St. Paddy's Day to all. - was_butnotnowExplorerWe have fulltimed since 2003 and spent our first winter in south TX didn't like it... Wind... damp.. wet... salt. Next winter went to Quartzsite and stayed the first year in a RV park. At the end of that first season got solar panels installed at Solar Discount in Q as we figured we wanted to go in the future boondock in the BLM. We did that for now many years. Loved it. $180 a season, sure propane costs and gas for the gen do add up. But wanted to be out in the open and have a campfires so RV parks didn't appeal to us.
We now travel in the late spring, summer and fall in our RV and after a couple of months at the end of the season boondocking again in Quartzsite.
More thoughts on boondocking or RV resorts.
My spouse got sick this year while boondocking in Q and had to be rushed to Havasu City to the hospital. So I moved our 5th wheel to a fancy RV Resort up there. Very nice but so closed in. It was nice at first but got old with the next RV within touching distance almost. People were spending their entire snowbird winter in this one place. It was nice but more like a parking lot.
I guess what I'm saying if all you ever do is head south to a RV Resort and think that is the only option it might be time to think outside the box and explore boondocking in the BLM somewhere at least for part of your time to explore the options.

Personally, I tend to be extravagant in some areas and frugal in others. I own my two RVs and my home outright, yet, I turn lights out when I leave a room, will spend extravagantly on art supplies and or technology, while also seriously considering whether to buy this bleu cheese dressing or the brand that is 50 cents less expensive.
Just one of the quirks I accept about myself.
I believe you hit upon the true answer. We all think we are money experts. We know best where to save and where to spend.
Anyone that does it differently is "wrong."
Like lots of things in this world, there is more than one way to get the job done. To each his own.
Happy Camping.
