No Shaw Service in USA

Shaw has the home away from home program where they will sell you an extra dish for a cottage or RV. All they need is the address or vin number of the RV to register you. It is understood, however, that only one location is active at one time although they do not actively pursue that area. Their customer service is excellent in assisting you to set up a dish in southern locations.

Bell does the same but they insist on turning off the home receiver and turning on the cottage one- a real pain which probably nobody does. They did however not want US use and now with the new satellites do not have that problem. Only Bell had this- said it was illegal- nonsense- probably a contractual agreement with the US suppliers of their equipment.

Anyway, Shaw is a much nicer company to deal with in my opinion. I would not go back to Bell personally.

our home receiver here in Ontario has never had a phone line connected to it! We have no problems.

They can't tell where the receiver is unless you connect it to the phone or internet.

Which is why they have issues with something called Account Stacking.

This is an issue that all of us who use Shaw might need to look at. I'm a member on another forum and someone else, who recently contacted Shaw stated that as of June 30 Shaw will not have service in the US. I have emailed them but yet to hear, if this is the case I know that I will no longer be with Shaw.

The only way they can stop you is to change the footprint of the existing birds so that they don't cover the Southern US. They haven't done that to the best of my knowledge. The whole phone line thing is only for interactive services like VOD.

This whole Shaw thing reminds me of how you tell one person a factual thing and by the time the 10 person has heard the story it is not anywhere close to the original fact. The whole phone connectivity is a joke, look at all the Shaw customers that only use cell phones and have no land lines to connect. Is Shaw going deny these customers? I think not. I have never had a phone line connected to any of my receivers and with my cell phone now it would be tough to do. Someone posted that June 30 is the magic date, we will see I will be south soon after, around the 10th of July. We will see what happens and I will certainly not lose any sleep over it.

I just switched back to Bell on Saturday, and was told by the Shaw rep the same thing, that they would no longer provide service to the US, the reason was not very clear, from CRTC rules to FCC restrictions.

I just told them, if this was just a business decision, it was a very BAD one because a lot of people use Shaw for the U.S. coverage.

I am just curious, what was the your real reason for switching back to Bell?

If you keep your old dish setup you will still be able to get service as far south as Mexico.
If you upgrade your system to receive the new satellite it will not work south of the border ON THE NEW SATELLITE ONLY !!!!
