Just a couple of comments about your post Installer:

Hello everyone, I install systems in Canada and can shed a wee bit of light for you..Hopefully.
Yes they can. They have caller ID which even if you try to block it still shows up on their end. If you log into your account from a US IP address they know. We had one customer pay his bill on line while in Mexico, they took his money and 2 days later he was turned off.
What about the folks here in Canada who use sat internet services like Hughes (which shows that you are somewhere in Delaware in the US)? I don't think Shaw would pull the plug
ok, some of the things we know. If Shaw knows you have a box in the states because you turn it on every fall, they will no longer activated it. Possibly if you bring it back to Canada and call them maybe.
How does Shaw know that you have turned the box on if you aren't connected to a phone? It's a one way service, the LNB doesn't transmit!
The best thing now is for you to buy an New XKU lnb if that is what you have at home and add a new dsr600 to your account before you leave and activate it here. Some folks are buying a Canadian Magic jack and then changing the phone number on their account to the new number so they can now call Shaw from anywhere safely.( or use a canadian cell) but the number should be on your account.
If you have more than one dish all receivers have to be on the same V-code whether xku or quad. if they are different ie 2 on xku and 1 on quad it sends up a flag and you will get a call about it.
Will they change the footprint of F1 & F2? Nobody knows, they maybe able to tilt the satellite enough to mess up the signal down south. But the satellites are used for other forms of communication, so not too probable. When they to a newer satellite such as G1 Very Probable!. In the beginning, we were told G1 would cover the south, but by launch time that had changed to Canada only.
Very unlikely that they would play with the sat angles, I haven't checked F2 but F1 has other customers who would be very upset if their signals disappeared! I don't think Shaw controls the sats, they just rent space on them.
Will VOD work for you if you have High speed internet. We are told no, as it will show a US IP address. If you use a VPN service or program to fake a Canadian it should. I have not had anyone confirm this for me though.
So best advice is to stay off the radar, tell Shaw you now only have 1 location or if you have a cottage in Canada you can pay for a 2nd account there if you wish. But any receivers not in Canada will be turned off. Then get a Canadian Magic jack if you need to call from outside canada or use your canadian cell phone.
OH yes, Near as we can tell it was DTV putting the screws to the FCC about Shaw. The CRTC denies they instructed Bell or Shaw to stop support south. They do say though that their license is for Canada only.
Here is a copy of the letter from the crtc
Dear Mr. xxxxxx,
This is in response to your correspondence to the CRTC of June 1, 2013.
The CRTC has not issued any ruling requiring satellite TV distributors to block their signals from customers across the border (Bell TV nor Shaw Direct). The matter is one of licensing, in that the Commission is only able to grant a license to a company for distribution in Canada. The same applies to those in the U.S. - each distributor is licensed to do business in a given area. This means that companies have not acquired the rights to broadcast the programming feeds outside of their territory. Broadcasters enter into private agreements with respect to the distribution of their signals and programming rights – and then apply for licenses accordingly.
Bell TV and Shaw Direct must negotiate rights agreements to distribute signals outside of their territory, or obtain a license from the FCC. In other words, it is a business decision each company must make and the CRTC is not involved, nor informed.
Sincerely,
Jo-Anne P.

From what I read on another forum, a Shaw customer was cut off as a result of the home away from home program being stopped earlier in the year when he went mobile. He called Shaw and they set up a separate account (no additional charge), he will call Shaw when he goes mobile and they will do the switch. Just as an add on edit, this customer had Shaw cable at home and a dish when mobile, so this may have been a factor.
