North Dakota City Parks

In searching for campgrounds I've come across several small cities with parks that have just a few sites for rv's, some with full hookups. Has anybody stayed at these? Are they appropriate for a weeks stay? I want to visit nephew for a week in Sheldon ND and several of these are close by. Never had any experience with them.
Thanks
tws
P.S. Anybody stayed at Sheyenne Oaks Horse Park? (North Dakota)

  • I would not sweat over the quality of a town park. We have also stayed at a number of them & never had a dud. They are usually near empty. If anything you will suffer from loneliness.
  • Sheyenne Oaks looks like a very pleasant relaxing campground but no, haven't stayed at that one. We wouldn't hesitate staying there if we needed to be in the area....good place for your family to visit. I assume you'll see some horses there in the pasture...nice.

It doesn't appear to be a city park though.

If your family is nearby you could have them check it out for you and perhaps pick out a good site. You could also have them ask around for suggestions. There's also Fort Ransom State Park just west of Sheldon and 46/1. Never stayed there though. It gets high marks on RVParkReviews.com

Also, Sandager City Park, Lisbon. It has a pool though so might be crowded and noisy. We'd stay at the state park.

We have also stayed at many city/county parks and never had a bad experience. Good luck!

Yes I found the parks, I want reviews from someone who has used them.

My reply was based on our experiences with these smaller parks. They vary a lot. I've written articles with pictures and comments about the ones we have visited:

  • City parks are one of my preferences. Often located in conjunction with other park activities where you can watch a softball game etc. Ones I've been in have fairly frequent police patrols.
  • Check out Uscampgrounds.info. Often there is a link to the park web site, or a number to call for information.

IME this type of park is usually pretty nice, quiet, and has occasional police patrols. Amenities, prices, and allowed stay times vary. If you don't find info online, call the city's parks department.
  • TJ,

Have you tried RV Park Reviews? That is what I use all the time and If there isn't a recent review, I write one.

We have stayed in several places of that description and always had a nice time. We have even stopped at some for a lunch break because they were close to the route and then I could write about them too.

  • Hi,

I've stayed in many small town parks and actually prefer them. I have not stayed in the ones you have referenced.
  • There are literally hundreds of towns and cities across the US that provide some sort of provisions for RV'ing visitors to spend a night or a few days. Some are free, some have hookups, some have stay-length limits. Often the first night or two is free, with a minimal payment required after that. They are usually close to downtown to encourage visitors to spend a little time (and a few dollars) in town.

How to find them? We have found The Ultimate Public Campground Project to be a great resource.
